Jar mill

The ball mill is a device that rotates the grinding jar into which material is placed together with the grinding balls. By moving the grinding balls inside the jar, the ground material is crushed by a combination of pressure, impact and spreading. It can be both dry grinding and wet grinding. Grinding wet material is faster, easier to empty the grinding jar and is not dusty when handling the material. We recommend wet grinding, especially in cases where the ground material is used directly in the wet stage in the next step.

Depending on the jars, balls and lengths and rotational speeds very fine grinding of relatively hard materials can be achieved. It covers a wide range of applications in many sectors. Small jar mills of up to 20 liters are most commonly used to prepare smaller amount of raw materials for production or in different kinds of laboratories. Ball mills are commonly used in production and in quality slurry preparation of glazes, enamels and pigments. They are also used for recycling, in research and development laboratories (R/D), in manufacturing plants, in mining and mineral processing, in construction, etc.

Jar mill KM 01/R

Jar mill KM 01/R is designed as a table top model and can be used for one grinding jar of 1 – 4 liters. The mill offers excellent price/performance ratio and is designed for use in smaller workshops and laboratories. It is equipped with rubber feet and with its weight approx. 30 kg (without the jar) it is stable and relatively quiet during operation. KM 01/R is equipped as standard with stepless speed control, ranging from 130 – 270 rpm. The higher speed you set, the faster grinding will occur, but more heat will be generated and the grinding jars and balls will wear out faster. The speed control is regulated by a proven frequency converter.  The entire structure of the mill is treated with a durable industrial varnish. The mill is designed for use with grinding jars of diameters of 140 – 250 mm. The roll widths are stepless adjustable according to the outer diameter of the jar used. The side stoppers can be positioned as desired with regard to the outside length of the grinding jar.

Grinding jars and balls

The grinding jars and grinding bodies are made of a variety of hard materials. The material used mainly affects the jar life time and possible contamination during grinding. The basic type are porcelain grinding jars and porcelain grinding balls. More durable are jars made out of hard porcelain, which are fired at high temperature, with grinding media made of Al2O3. For grinding hard materials, some customers use stainless steel or steel jars lined with different materials to reduce material contamination during grinding, such as polyurethane.

Determination of the appropriate volume

Usually, material itself takes approx. 1/3 of the volume, 1/3 the grinding media and 1/3 is left in the jar as the so-called grinding space. That means if we consider grinding about 1 liter of material, than you will need, roughly, a three-liter grinding jar.
