Plaster boards are essential accessories for every ceramic workshop. Thanks to their ability to absorb moisture and their strength, they are widely used in various stages of ceramic production. We offer different sizes of square, rectangular (both marked SDH) and round shapes (marked SDK) to suit the different applications of ceramists.

Recycling and processing of waste ceramic clay

When working with clay (both modelling and throwing on the pottery wheel), waste clay is often produced which contains water. Plaster boards can be used to recycle this clay. Thick clay slurry is poured onto the plaster board, which absorbs the moisture and leaves solid particles on the surface. Once dry, this residue can be easily removed, processed, or mixed with new material and reused. Smaller amounts can be processed by hand directly on the plaster board, while larger amounts are usually processed using pugmills.

Drying of products

Gypsum boards are ideal for drying freshly made ceramic products. Their porous surface quickly absorbs excess moisture, speeding up the drying process and minimising the risk of deformation or cracks. By wetting the plaster board before placing the products, the drying process can be slowed down. In this use, the products on the plaster board are often still fully or partially placed in various plastic bags.

Work surface for modelling

Plasterboards are also used as work surfaces for modelling ceramic products. Their firm and smooth surface provides a stable base for moulding and modelling clay. In addition, thanks to their ability to absorb moisture, they help to maintain the optimum consistency of the clay while working. The ceramist will wet the board as needed during this use.

Sizes offered and their uses

- Small sizes (e.g. AS SDH 20/20 and SDK 20): ideal for smaller products and details such as small sculptures or decorations.

- Medium sizes (e.g. AS SDH 30/30 and SDK 25): The most popular sizes suitable for medium-sized products such as bowls, mugs or smaller vases. In smaller workshops, they can also be used as a working mat for modelling.

- Large sizes (e.g. AS SDH 50/35 and SDK 35): Perfect for larger projects such as plates or larger decorative items. They can also be well used as a full size work pad when modelling.
