Roderveld pyramid furnaces have been proven in practice for several decades and stand out for their simplicity and efficiency. It offers enormous possibilities for experimentation. There are two sizes and different designs that can be heated with wood or gas. Compared to electrically heated stoves, firing is possible in a reducing or oxidising atmosphere, which can achieve unique effects. Pyramid kilns are suitable for firing ceramics (porous), Raku, glass fusing, over firing or firing low temperature glazes, either with a full base or for rapid firing with a single cup base. The maximum temperature that can be reached in these kilns, depending on the quality of the fuel, is 1200°C.

The Pyramide 135 litre wood burning stove is supplied as a simple jigsaw with pictorial assembly instructions and is designed for outdoor firing. If the stove is permanently located outdoors, it is recommended that a suitable shelter is provided to protect against the weather. The entire wood stove, including the firebox, is dry-folded, so the stove can be easily disassembled and stored or moved to another location after firing and cooling. The top of the Pyramide 135 litre kiln has two external handles for easy handling and is made of 2.0 mm thick steel plate, lined with ceramic fibre insulation and the whole section weighs around 45 kg. Because of the pyramidal shape of the wood stove, the temperature is deflected downwards before leaving the flue. This results in the possibility of rapid temperature rises using little energy. This design and good insulation allow (in the gas version - at extra cost) for example 5 - 7 Raku firings to a temperature of 1050°C using an 11 kg propane cylinder. The first firing will take about 75 minutes, subsequent firings will take about 60 minutes to reach temperature. Firing in a Pyramide 135 litre wood-fired kiln is even faster. After heating the kiln with dry wood for one hour, it is possible to reach temperature and unload every 30 minutes with a minimum amount of wood. Dry fir or poplar wood has proven to be the best fuel for wood-fired furnaces.

The sloping door design ensures that the stove will always be tight due to the dead weight of the door. But it can be opened quickly and easily or just a little ajar to control the melting of the glaze, which is very useful when firing Raku. In addition, because the kiln door is on the side instead of the top, there is less risk of burnt eyelashes and eyebrows, so this concept is safer for the operator. Using a wood-fired kiln provides full involvement of the ceramic throughout the firing process. The artist sits quietly beside his wood kiln while watching the flames and heat of the fire, occasionally chipping and adding wood. Some treat such firing as a social event and invite their friends to assist in the wood or gas firing (for the gas version - at an additional cost). By opening the door it is possible to see the product inside the hot kiln, to see if the glaze is already melting and to observe the orange colour of the melted material at a temperature of around 1000°C. It is hard to imagine a more involved firing process. Firing in a wood-fired kiln is easy. The kiln seems to burn itself. Everyone develops their own ideas about firing in a wood kiln, the possibilities of reduction firing make the kiln a very personal experience.

Then there is the larger Pyramide 240 litre model available in all heating options (wood, gas and wood+gas). If you are seriously interested in the Pyramid wood or gas furnaces, please contact us.

Díky lidem z firmy ARTIK STUDIO a Tomáši Mackovi jsme pec společně sestavili a provedli první výpal.

Pec lze rychle sestavit a snadno obsluhovat v jednom člověku. Zajímavá je i možnost otápění pece PB. Rozhodně výpaly v tomto typu pece budou mít vždy punc jedinečnosti a nebudou trpět nudou.
Pec bych nedoporučil pro komerční seriovou výrobu. Je vhodná právě pro opačné spektrum trhu.
