Red-brown porous material no. 18 is a special type of material which is characterised by its unique sintering properties when fired at 1100°C (i.e. sintering 100°C lower than ordinary stoneware). Thanks to this property, this clay (together with black-brown variant no. 12 and grey-white no. 19) is recommended for the production of utility ceramics using low-temperature glazes of the PD and PK series. Another advantage of this clay is the absence of burel, which is often used by manufacturers to darken the clay and can cause skin irritation in sensitive persons. Therefore, it is possible to use this dark mass without any problem even in hobby or school workshops. The quality of the clay as well as the packaging corresponds to the high standard of all German Witgert ceramic clays.
Witgert masses are well packed in a strong PE bag secured with an aluminium clip. They can be easily transported and the clasp on the packaging can be re-closed with pliers when the required quantity is removed. Witgert ceramics are produced using wet or semi-dry technology (flakes). They are not made from dry powdered or granulated mixtures, which avoids the hardening that is common with such materials, which occurs after a certain period of storage even without breaking the packaging.
For long-term storage of our ceramic clays, we recommend placing them in a low-heated area (garage, basement, etc.) without the risk of freezing, put them in a black bag and tie them up. The absence of light will prevent the formation of mould. Stored in this way, the materials have a virtually unlimited shelf life.
